Local Rules
1. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 18)
- Over any boundary fence, hedge or post.
- The clubhouse, including paved surrounds, the practice putting greens (inc. the former Bowls Green) and the car park as defined by the line of white posts.
- The cemetery to the right of the 1st, 17th and 18th holes.
- Over the fence or, on or over the road forming the northern boundary of the 13th hole.
- On or over the Pilgrims Way when playing the 1st (excluding the section in front of the tee within the white boundary posts), 9th, 14th and 15th holes.
2. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS. (Rule 16)
The following are deemed to be immovable obstructions
- All staked trees.
- Sprinkler heads, manholes, drains, hydrants, drinking fountains, distances slabs and permanent fixed tee signage.
- Any wooden railings, fixed posts and steps, wire netting protective screens and tee mats.
- The roadways in front of the 1st tees.
- The roadway crossing the 6th and 10th fairways.
- The drive behind the 9th green within the boundary of the course, except over the Pilgrims Way.
- Any artificially created pathways, for example those with a surface of stones, aggregate, or similar man‑made materials and pathways created through wear and tear by the tyres of greenkeeping machinery.
(Paths that are naturally formed, i.e. those created solely by foot traffic and without the addition of artificial materials, are not considered obstructions).
Relief from interference by an immovable obstruction may be taken under Rule 16.1. The player also has these extra options to take relief when such immovable obstructions are close to the putting green and on the line of play:
Ball in General Area. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b if an immovable obstruction or an abnormal course condition is on the line of play, and is:
- Within two club-lengths of the putting green, and
- Within two club-lengths of the ball.
3. ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS (Rule 16 GUR)
Rule 16.1.b applies to the following:
- Ground damaged by horses.
- Vehicle ruts within the general play area.
- The area within the cricket boundary including the square at the 2nd hole.
- All flower beds.
- Any area marked with a painted white line.
4. PENALTY AREAS. (Rule 17)
The water catchment areas, to the right of the 10th and 14th fairways and the pond at the 12th hole, as defined by red/yellow posts.
5. NO PLAY ZONES & GENERAL
The Pit. The faces of The Pit wall are deemed a No Play Zone. The faces of the Pit are marked with white posts with a black top and a ball finishing in the marked area must be dropped in the dropping zone at the bottom of the Pit under rule 16.1b.
