Code of Conduct
1. Introduction:
For your information, the rules of Enfield Golf Club fall into two categories:
- There are the General Rules, which are rules approved by the Club as a whole at a General Meeting and cover not just questions of behaviour but also matters relating to the objects of the Club and its management. General Rules can only be amended at a General Meeting and the General Committee cannot vary them unilaterally. The latest edition includes resolutions up to March 2021.
- There is the Club’s Code of Conduct (previously House Rules). These are rules which may be imposed or varied by the General Committee from time to time. This Code applies throughout the club premises, course, facilities and whilst representing the club at away events.
Enfield Golf Club deems that upon payment of membership or green fees, all members, guests and visitors have given their consent to be bound by this Code of Conduct and the General Rules. The intention of this Code of Conduct is to establish clear and acceptable behaviour expectations for Enfield Golf Club members, guests and visitors to ensure that everyone can expect to be treated with respect while enjoying the Enfield Golf Club course and clubhouse.
2. Standards of Behaviour:
Members and Visitors are expected to create and maintain an environment free of intimidation and harassment, in particular towards members of staff by:
- Communicating with others in a manner that reflects respect and care
- Not using any offensive, discriminatory or harassing language
- Promoting the positive aspects of golf when representing yourself or the club (e.g. fair play, honesty and etiquette)
- Complying with instructions or restrictions required by club staff, officers and directors.
Examples of unacceptable conduct:
- Any form of verbal, physical, sexual and emotional abuse including harassment or bullying towards staff, workers, committee representatives or other members and guests
- Offensive and insulting written / electronic communications to staff, workers, committee representatives or other members and guests
- Discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or beliefs, sex or sexual orientation
- Criticism of staff whilst playing on the course
- The possession, use or supply of illegal drugs on club premises
- Excessive foul language and loud swearing, in particular in the clubhouse
- Posting hurtful comments or personal attacks on social networking sites
- Drunkenness which leads to offensive behaviour
- Any form of cheating, which may include deliberate manipulation of handicaps.
On the Course
- Observe proper golf etiquette as well as the R&A Rules of Golf and the local rules of the course.
- Adhere to the player’s dress code.
- Be organised and on time out of respect to others.
- Avoid slow play, apply ready golf principles and allow other golfers to play through as appropriate.
- Respect the golf course and obey all signage on the golf course.
- Take pride in the physical appearance of the golf course as it is reflective of you as a member. Replace divots or use seed mix, rake bunkers and fix pitch marks.
- Respect the rights of other players and golf course staff.
- Do not play your ball if there is any risk to other players, staff or equipment.
- If you play a ball in a direction where there might be a danger of hitting someone, you should immediately shout a warning, such as the traditional warning of “fore”.
- Do not play blind shots e.g. 16th Green unless you are certain that the intended landing area is clear of other players.
- If you are able to reach the 13th green with your drive, ensure the green is clear of other players.
- You should not enter the brook because the banks are typically steep and could be slippery. Recovery of golf balls entering the brook should be done by standing outside the hazard and using a ball retriever. Trolleys and/or buggies should be left at least 3 metres from brook boundaries.
- Act honestly on all occasions during play. Conduct yourself in a sportsmanlike manner and do not knowingly cheat, throw clubs, disrespect employees, officials or fellow competitors.
