Out of Bounds

Beyond all boundary fences, hedges or white marker posts or white lines bounding the course.

In or beyond the hedge bordering the car park at the rear of the 2nd green.

Beyond the white markers to the left of the 4th fairway adjacent to the practice area.

Within the white markers in front and to the left of the 4th Teeing areas.

On or beyond the path along Limes Avenue to the right of the 9th and right of the 11th hole.

On or beyond the Coach Road between the 18th and 6th holes.

On or beyond the tarmac and concrete roadways to the left of the 12th hole.

Beyond, on or touching the track at the rear of the 12th green.

Left of the 16th hole in or beyond the river.

Beyond the white markers to the left of the 18th fairway adjacent to the practice area

The club car park and practice ground.

Over the boundary of the castle land.

 

Obstructions

Relief may be taken (Rule 16.1) from any artificial pathway, border, steps, or Immovable Obstruction in the General Area. Immovable Obstructions include:

The shelters at the back of the 7th green and beside the 15th white tee.
Wooden sleepers around the 10th and 16th tees.
Coloured distance marker discs embedded in fairways, and
Plastic hole caps used to plug spare holes on greens.

Young trees with stakes or support wire in the General Area are No Play Zones and relief MUST be taken under Rule 16.1f.

If a sprinkler head is on the line of play and is within two club-lengths of the putting green, and within two club-lengths of the ball, a player may take relief under Rule 16.1b.

When playing the 15th hole, if a ball lies on the pathway between the green and the 16th white tee in the area beyond the white line, the player may without penalty lift and drop the ball in the drop zone behind the 15th green.

 

No Play Zones

A player must take relief when:

  • Their ball is in a no play zone, or

  • A no play zone interferes with their area of intended stance or area of intended swing in playing a ball outside the no play zone.

The Penalty Area behind the 7th green and to the right of the 17th green, is a No Play Zone. If a player’s ball is in the penalty area, including when it is known or virtually certain to be in that penalty area even though not found, the player has these relief options, each for one penalty stroke:

  • When playing the 7th or the 17th the player may take relief under Rule 17.1e, or

  • When playing the 7th, as an extra option, the player may drop the original or another ball in the drop zone. The drop zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3

 

Penalty Areas (Rule 17)

All ponds and ditches and the heather to the right of the 3rd hole are Penalty Areas, when defined by red or yellow stakes and a line on the ground if drawn. The Penalty Area behind the 5th green has a drop zone to the side which is available.

 

Embedded Ball Rule

Free relief is not allowed when a ball is embedded in soil faces above bunkers.
